Be Careful How You Post on Social Media

I wanted to share a piece of advice that I had learned while I was in my masters program. Two of my professors told the class to be aware of what we post on our social media platforms. I took their advice into account, since I knew I was representing the program forever and till the end of time. Even if you don't have many followers, be aware of what you post. I know it's something that you don't initially think will affect you but, I promise you that people are ALWAYS watching what you say, whether it's good or bad. With that being said, wanted to share a story of how I became a part of a social media stunt with the Colorado Rockies.

I know you're probably thinking to yourself... how the heck did that happen?

I'm pretty active on social media, whether it'd be Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or Facebook, I spend quite a bit of time on each of them. I was tweeting on my laptop during the NL Wild Card Game this past season (2018), the two teams battling for the postseason spot were the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies. For those who have watched a baseball or hockey game with me, you already know that I'm very intense. During that game, I was tweeting any moment that I could. Several people know that I make a lot of comments towards Nolan Arenado and Ryan McMahon because they are both from Orange County (where I grew up). Obviously they aren't bad comments, I treat them more as a brother of mine and I want nothing but success for each of them. If any of you were watching that game, it was pretty intense game to watch. Since the game was so intense, I tweeted out that if the Rockies win this game, I would buy a Nolan Arenado jersey. The Rockies ended up winning that game, and I bought a Arenado jersey and screenshotted proof then posted it the picture along with my tweet chain. Low and behold a few months rolled by and found this on my timeline...

I zoomed in on the photo that was posted...

I didn't feel embarrassed, humiliated or anything along those lines. Out of everything, I was surprised that the Rockies were actually paying attention to what I was tweeting. This tweet started the whole twitter stunt and I will say that I'm so glad that I said I would buy a only a jersey. There were people who promised to get a tattoo or something crazy and yes, they actually got their tattoo like good sports. It was pretty crazy if you asked me..

At the end of this twitter stunt day, the Rockies tweeted this...

When they said, "We're always watching.", it truly means something, it doesn't matter if you dislike or like a team, someone who is scrolling through the internet will see what you are posting. This should be a lesson to everyone with a social media page, you never know who will read your message/tweet. The sports world is a small world where everyone knows everyone. For those who are wondering, I did receive my shirt and it is one of the comfiest t-shirts I own. (Thanks Rockies).
